Luther Park Resident Journeys

Maria's Journey

I was in a very bad accident. I woke up in the hospital. I wasn’t sure how long I was there but, it was a very long time. I have three sons and they are dedicated to my happiness. They looked at a lot of different places and told me, this is the best, this is it. They did a really good job. I am very content, I love it here.

The nursing staff is good; as soon as I need them they are here.

I have a family that is so good to me. They always come to take me out. That’s the only bad thing. I enjoy all the things Luther Park has here. I try to go to all of them. Here I can socialize when I want but I also have my privacy. So, I tell my boys to come here, we’ll have a little party. I have a lot more time with my family. This has turned out very well. I’m so happy here. I really am.

I love getting up on a nice sunny morning and socializing. It’s really nice and so much more social here than my apartment. At the same time, I feel very safe and secure.

My family finally realized I just can’t do what they can. It’s better than I thought it would be. I love my family to come but I don’t want them to stop me from anything I’m doing because I’m learning. In a lot of ways, Luther Park has helped me maintain my independence.

Toni's Path

I miss my car. I think everyone misses their car to go places. But at 80 plus you realize your reflexes aren’t the same and you’re a menace on the highway. I miss that but it’s a necessity.

I lived in my home in Roslyn and gave that up when my children moved away and I moved to Gloria Dei Farms retirement community.

I was happy that I moved. One of the reasons is I didn’t want to sleep in a house by myself any more.   When I needed a little more help I moved here to Luther Park.

It’s another way of living, but it’s very pleasant.

I enjoy the meals, I like sitting down and playing the piano. I’m very happy that I can play the piano at the religious services.  Most of all I enjoy the people working and living here.

Doris' Journey

I had my own apartment, and then I moved to Shannondell. When I broke my hip they brought me here. I’m so glad they did.

I like this much more than being cooped up in my own apartment. I love it here.

I’m very happy to be treated as an individual, and not like cattle. The food, as you can see, is very good too. I can’t say enough about it.

The people are very nice, all the people, staff and residents. I haven’t met anyone I didn’t like.  I just like it and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Another benefit is that I manage my medicine much better here. I’m a diabetic and that’s very important.

Mary's Voyage

I lived at home. When my husband passed away I went to live with my sister until I was able to come to Gloria Dei Farms.  From there I came to Luther Park; I needed a littler more help; I just wasn’t well enough to live at The Farms.

My daughter found Luther Park for me. She did a really good job. It’s a lot easier and there is less to worry about. It is safe, secure and gives me and my daughters peace-of-mind.

Plus, I get to spend more time with my daughter that lives in the area.

My other daughter lives in Harrisburg so I don’t get to see her as much.

I am happy here. I really am. It’s been nice and everyone is nice to me. Everyone who works here is nice. I have no complaints. All I can say is I like it here and wouldn’t want to be anyplace else. Everything is here for me.

Nello's Way

I’m a short timer at Luther Park, about three months, but I have to say I agree with everything the ladies have said. It’s easier here and there’s less to worry about.

I’m a little shy and a bit of a loner, but I come to all that meals. The food is really good and it gives me a chance to mingle. It really comes down to the people.

My daughter-in-law found Luther Park for me and she did a really good job.

Allen's Introspection

I am very conscious of the fact that I’m finishing up my life. I want to be prepared for the time I step into eternity. That’s the most important part of my life right now. I am tuned into one of the Christian radio stations and I appreciate the opportunity to go to services in the Chapel. I enjoy Bible study and the numerous chances to hear God’s word.

I’m very pleased with Luther Park. I love this place, the meals are great and the people are wonderful.  It’s so great.

This is a wonderful place. There are many things in my heart. I’m in the process now of selling my home and its contents.

My home was a wonderful place, a lot of memories and attachments. But I had a fall and Abington Hospital told me I really shouldn’t be going back to my home.

My daughter picked this place and she did a great job.

I don’t have to deal with a home as old as I am. It’s so labor intensive, chipping paint, other things coming apart. Now I don’t have to deal with any of that any more. I don’t have to worry about anything.  What a relief. It’s much easier and less expensive, too.

Regular meals have been a great benefit for me, too. At home I might not have gotten to lunch until 3:00 or dinner at 9:00. Sometimes I would eat very poorly because I didn’t want to bother.
